Ivor Peters was born on the island of St. Vincent in 1964 and developed an interest in cooking and baking at a very young age by assisting his mother in the kitchen. In 1987 he left St. Vincent and took to sea as a third cook on a Windjammer sailing ship.

In 1990, he moved to the British Virgin Islands and began working as a cook for Bon Appétit food writer, Jinx Morgan, who owned The Sugar Mill on Tortola.  Jinx made the arrangements for sending Ivor to the Culinary Institute for summer courses during the hotel’s slow season.

In 1998, Great Chefs Television taped pastry chef Ivor Peters at The Sugar Mill for their new series Great Chefs of the Caribbean which aired on the Discovery Channel for 10 years.  It’s been said that chef Ivor would forgo an afternoon of snorkeling so as not to miss one episode of the series!
