Chef Biography
Christopher Malta was born in 1971 in Virginia, and raised in Rochester, New York where he secured his first kitchen job at a Perkins Restaurant while still in high school. When his school culinary team won a chocolate competition, he knew he had found his true vocation. He enrolled in the State University and graduated with a degree in occupational studies with a culinary major.
He apprenticed at the Hyatt Regency in the U.S. Virgin Islands, then moved to California to work in the pastry shop at the Hyatt Grand Champions. In 1994, at the age of 23, he was offered the pastry chef’s position at Atlanta’s 1848 House. A year later, the Great Chefs television crew showed up to tape Chef Malta there, for the Discovery Channel’s Great Chefs of the South series. That historical building was sold in 2006.
