Chef Biography
The Jaramillo ranch house was built in 1888 and rooms were added as the family grew. In 1965, Arturo and his wife, Florence, re-opened the farm house as Rancho de Chimayo, the restaurant. Twenty years later in 1985, the Jaramillos were honored as “Restaurateur of the Year” by the National Restaurant Association in Chicago.
Dick Brennan, who was president of the Association that year, recommended to the Great Chefs Television team, to include Rancho de Chimayo in their new PBS series, Great Chefs of the West. Chefs Manuel Aragon, Josie Ortiz and Kate Abeyta prepared Sopaipillas, Natilla, and Huevos Rancheros in Chimayo Green Chili Sauce, while Arturo Jaramillo demonstrated how to make a Chimayo Cocktail in episode #12. The dishes also appeared in the companion cookbook, Southwest Tastes, and now on www.greatchefs.com
Today, in 2017, three generations of the Jaramillo family, Florence, Laura and Lauren, run the Rancho de Chimayo, and have expanded it not only as a restaurant, but as an Inn as well.
