Chef Biography

Andrew Wilkinson graduated from the Culinary Institute (CIA) in 1983 and then went to Germany to apprentice at the two star Kur-Hotel Traube in the Black Forest (Tonback).  Then, from 1984 to 1987, he was the sous chef and chef de cuisine at Aurora Restaurant in New York City, and then spent a couple of years (1987-88) in Fukuoka, Japan as the chef de cuisine at the Hotel Clio.

He returned to the Aurora as executive chef until 1990, when he moved to Joe Baum’s Rainbow Room as executive chef.  Great Chefs caught up with him the day after the first bombing of the World Trade Center in February 1993.  The Great Chefs Television crew was using a Ryder Truck (same as the bombers) when they showed up at the NBC building. Needless to say, there were a number of police who showed up at the same time. Chef Wilkinson appeared in the Discovery Channel’s Great Chefs of the East series.

Chef Andrew left the Rainbow Room in 1994 to open Skipjacks in Boston and in 2013, opened North Coast Seafoods in Medfield, MA.
