Chef Biography
Derek Langlois grew up on the Cape Cod National Seashore in Eastham, Massachusetts and while going to school at Cape Cod Community College, he worked evenings at small restaurants including Van Rensselaer’s from 1984 to 1990. He then attended Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island and graduated with a degree in Culinary Arts in 1991.
Following graduation, he was recruited by the Plantation House Restaurant in Maui, Hawaii. Working his way up the kitchen ladder, Chef Langlois was taped by the Great Chefs television crew, who were on the island in 1995 producing the Discovery Channel’s Great Chefs of Hawaii television series. He prepared a Molokai Sweet Bread Pudding dessert (episode #8).
In 2012, Chef Langlois returned to Cape Cod and his old training grounds as executive chef of Van Rensselaer’s Restaurant & Raw Bar where he remains today in 2016.
