Chef Biography

Maria Salcuni was born in the middle of WW II in 1943, in Polla, Salerno, Italy.  She was trained in the kitchen by her grandmother, Angelina, and in 1972, the family opened Tenda Rossa as a pizzeria. Eight years later they changed the style to a higher end Italian restaurant.  In May of 2000, the Great Chefs television team arrived to tape Chef Maria Salcuni for the Discovery Channel’s Great Chefs of the World television series (episodes 226 and 257).

Chef Maria has since turned over the kitchen responsibilities to her daughter, Maria, and son-in-law, Cristian, but still is involved to this day, in 2016.
