Chef Biography

Peter Chilla was born and raised in Germany. His father wanted him to become a chef, but Peter was more interested in engineering. His father prevailed, but today Chef Chilla does both since his desserts are constructed in such a way as to dazzle even the most fanatic dieter. Trained in the classical European tradition, Chef Chilla apprenticed in Germany and Canada before moving to Coral Gables, Florida, first at the Biltmore Hotel, then the Turnberry Isle Yacht & Country Club, and finally the Jockey Club in Miami.

In 1990, Chef Chilla was appointed as pastry chef of the Mauna Kea Beach Resort and in 1994 as executive pastry chef of both the Mauna Kea Resort and its sister hotel next door, the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. In November of 1994, the Great Chefs television crew showed up to tape Chef Chilla for the Discovery Channel’s Great Chefs of Hawaii series (episode #9).  In 2016, Chef Chilla is now the executive pastry chef for the Kona Village Hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii.
