Chef Biography

Daniel Scordato was born in Patterson, New Jersey in 1958, into the restaurant business.  The Scordato Family Restaurant opened in 1947 and relocated to Tucson in 1972.  At age 14 he began working in the restaurant helping out his Dad and learning how to make Italian Cuisine on the job.  He then went to Italy to apprentice under Great Chef Giuliano Bugialli to learn true Italian cooking.  In 1984 he opened his first restaurant called Daniel’s.  He often visited Great Chef André Soltner at Lutèce in New York City, and it was Chef Soltner who recommended Chef Daniel to the Great Chefs television folks.

In 1993, he started his new venture, Vivace, also in Tucson.  Seven years later, in February of 2000, Great Chefs showed up to tape him for their Discovery Channel series, Great Chefs of America.

In 2009, Chef Scordato opened Scordato’s Pizzeria, and in early 2014 he moved Vivace Restaurant to a larger location where he continues to modify the Italian techniques and cooking procedures without changing the ingredients, keeping the integrity of the Italian dishes.
